My obsession with reading started when I was really young. I used to love to read during my free-time. But, the older I got the harder it became.
Recently, I've been more into reading and I thought I'd share how I got back into one of my favorite hobbies.
1. Forget what you think you know about reading.
Reading is not the same that you did in school. There's no more being locked into one book, there's no book report due. You can try new books, re-read the old or just stop all together.
It's often encouraged to read outside of your comfort zone, picking up books you don't THINK you'll like. Read often and broadly.
2. Just start reading—no, really, just DO IT.
This might seem like a ''DUH'' moment but really, just get started. Head to your favorite store, do some research, think about what excites you and just pick it up.
3. Find time to read.
This is where we may run into bumps as busy adults now. It can be ten minutes or an hour, but making some sort of time is key into making it into a regular hobby and part of your day. Try swapping out that one episode of your favorite show for a chapter of your current read. When you have that morning coffee read a book instead of scrolling Instagram.
4. Explore different ways to read.
Repeat my words. AUDIOBOOKS COUNT. I don't care what anyone has to say, they counbt. Not everyone can sit down and find the time to read for many different reasons. You don't have to stick to the norm.
5. Lean on bookish apps and sites.
No matter how you like to read, what you like to read, and how often you like to read, there are so many resources to help you find books you love and stick with it. From (free) digital archives like Libby to indie bookshops to subscription book boxes like Book of the Month, these are some of the best resources to help make reading a hobby:
Libby
NetGalley
Goodreads
Pangobooks
Bookshop.org
Blackwells
Kindle Unlimited
Audible
The Strand
Scribd
Book of the Month
Storygraph
Happy Reading! I hope you all can find a book that you enjoy and love, when you do, let us know!
