Since I was a little girl I have always washed my hair in cold water. There was something about cold on the scalp and hair that just felt like it was good.
As it turns out, my intuition was right and in this blog, I’ll tell you why you and everyone you know should wash your hair in cold water. If you don’t have the guts, I got you. Just finish off with a quick cold rinse.
Anyway, in this post, we’re going to talk all about the benefits that come from washing your hair in cold water.
The Benefits of Washing Your Hair With Cold Water
♡ it closes the pores and the cuticle layer which gives you the shine we all love. Just like every part of your skin, hot water opens the pores. So finish off with a cold one.
♡ preserves your natural oils, again keeping the hair follicles or layer of the hair healthy with shine.
♡ locks in extra moisture and gives you that bouncy herbal essence commercial look.
♡ makes your hair softer, promotes hair growth, more manageable, and hair shaft resistant to breakage.
♡ preserves hair color: hair with hot water rinsing can make your color fade quicker.
For me, why wouldn’t I wash my hair in cold water? I even ask for it when I’m getting a blowout.
So there ya go, if you’re highlighted up, bleached out, or just want your hair to be a little shinier, this tip is for you.
Like I said, if you don’t have the guts for an entire cold shower, start with lukewarm water and just finish off with a quick cold blast for the benefits.
Does washing your hair with cold water help with dandruff?
While warm water opens up the hair cuticles on your scalp which allows you to clean your hair thoroughly, rinsing with warm water dries your scalp, which can lead to itchiness and dandruff to your hair and scalp. Washing with with cold water, on the other hand, doesn’t dissolve natural oils, which is beneficial for head and hair health and growth. Cold water works on the hair by closing cuticles, pores and helps reduce frizzy hair, which locks hair cuticles and binds hair strands together and increases hair’s shine since the closing of pores retains moisture..
So, yeah! It is best to rinse with cold water as your final rinse.
That's all for today, definitely try it out and let me know how your hair feels.
