Memories are marked in many ways. In this lovely Georgian antique pendant, small swirls of rich gold cannetille ornamentation, accented with glowing blue-green emeralds, form a pretty frame around a cushion-shaped compartment that displays the locks of a loved one. The reverse side is hand engraved with a commemoration of the earlier passing of Queen Katherine Parr, "Q.C.T. died 5th Sept, 1548.” May also be worn as a brooch. Total emerald weight, .40 carat. 18-inch contemporary chain.

GEORGIAN JEWELRY
True antiques, Georgian jewels are the earliest pieces in our collection. Lovely foil-backed stones in mixed-metal settings were made to shine by candlelight over dinner and in the drawing rooms of their genteel wearers. Many pieces were made in memory of loved ones or as “memento mori”—literal reminders of mortality that Georgians saw as sophisticated, rather than morbid. While the delicacy of Georgian era settings has been replaced by more modern methods, the cuts and styles have continued to fascinate jewelry lovers.
